Bad Things.
Good people.
I get the question almost every time I say I believe in God.
If there was a God, why do bad things happen to good people? Followed up with a
story that is heart touching, and connects us as Human Beings. There's
really
only one answer to this "spiritually".
There's a verse - and should honestly be mentioned every
time this question is asked.
"Be glad about this, even though it may now be
necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many trials you suffer.
Their purpose is to prove that your faith is genuine. Even gold, which can be
destroyed, is tested by fire; and so your faith, which is more precious than
gold, must also be tested, so that it may endure..." 1 Peter 1;6-8.
The reaction I had to this was -be glad, seriously? We
already sacrifice so much.. But do we? Throughout our young lives we're
socially, psychologically, emotionally and intellectually tested. But it's seen
as a norm: it's seen as a part of life. However when we get something that
hurts us so deep, we think to faith. We always go there when it's something so
crushing. Then we say in order to believe it... We'll have to see it...
"You love Him, although you have not seen him, and you
believe in him, although you do not now see him." 1 Peter 1:8
Faith to me isn't about all these crushing religious laws
that will judge you to oblivion. It's having hope in something bigger. A guide
that'll help you at any time.
What
do I gain, if its all just a compiled story, all in fiction? I gain Hope. And a
way of going about life with purpose. What do I lose? A Sunday
morning here and there...
Even if we had the answer to every question we asked, would
it change anything? Or better yet, would it stop bad things happening to good
people?
